1.1. Background:
Jane has specialised in Complex Communication Needs since 1980 and has over thirty years experience working with children and adults with severe communication impairments. She works holistically with other team members and families and has a special interest in autism and augmentative communication strategies. 1980-1985 Jane worked as Head of Department for the Queensland Cerebral Palsy League and after a period of working overseas and interstate, she was invited to take a position as Adviser in Facilitated Communication Training with Disability Services Queensland. This position resulted in the accreditation of the world’s first competency based training for facilitators and numerous presentations here and overseas. In 1996 she opened Options Communication Therapy Centre to provide a private specialist service for people with complex communication needs. This very satisfactory and challenging period of her career has enabled her to develop communication programs and work long-term with clients and their families. In 2009 Jane published two manuals in Facilitated Communication Training and Augmentative and Alterative Communication to accompany her workshops.
